One Year Ago Yesterday - Honeymoon Day 8
July 20, 2009: Leaving St. Kitts :(
Also known as our traveling day. Its not really a honeymoon day considering we didn't get to do anything except sit in airports!
So we woke up and ate breakfast. We finished packing. DH went to a store to get more liquor and such as presents. I think he also returned our little rental car. It seemed like he took forever and I was really worried about him.
He finally got back and we finished packing and I took some last minute pictures.

Even though this is definitely a resort view
I'm going to miss it!!
This is the money shot!
This is exactly the view I was looking for for my honeymoon!
Our Balcony

We went downstairs. I'm not sure if before then or not we checked out, I guessing it was before then because I remember when we left the room we no longer had a key to get back in. I think our taxi driver was there already. We drove to the airport. We had some bottle of liquor that we had partially drank during the trip and we gave them to the taxi driver. It was like already mixed stuff in a bottle. They were good but we couldn't bring that much liquid on the plane.
We checked in at the airport and discovered our bags were too heavy. The lady said to switch stuff to one bag because paying for one overweight bag is less than two overweight bags. So DH quickly switched some stuff around. I think we had to pay an extra like $60 for our overweight bag. We were also informed that our flight was delayed.
So we waited in the airport for hours and I mean hours. I wasn't worried because I knew we had a long delay in Miami. Others were going to miss their connecting flights. I was really happy I had brought a book along and we had Jonathan's DS. It was so boring!
After hours and hours of boredom and having to eat airport food and buying last minute souvenirs in the airport, we boarded the plane. We found out that the day before flight had been canceled and those people were on our plane.
A few hours later we were finally in Miami. I could finally turn my phone back on. I was very happy. While walking to customs, we let the important people know that we had landed. I don't remember if I called my sister or if she called me, but anyway I was talking on my phone to my sister in the customs line. She was going on and on about the trip to Disney they took while we were on our Honeymoon. The line at customs was really long and so I didn't think anything of talking of my phone. Well, a security guard came up to me and told me to get off my phone. DH looked at me like I was crazy. I had never been through customs, how am I to know its not proper to talk on my phone while waiting in a crazy long line. I still don't understand why you have to do this anyway.
So we get to the customs desk. DH declared his mangoes. I thought for sure we were going to get arrested or something. They take DH to the side and get me to come with him. You can't bring mangoes into the country. They then extra special check our bags. I think we are lucky we didn't get a fine.
Then we head with our bags to check in for our connecting flight. We wait in another long line to go through airport security. There are a bunch of those teenager groups from South America who go to Disney World. They have huge stuffed animals. I wonder why they can bring that on an international flight, but whatever.
Finally we get to the terminal. Our flight to New Orleans is delayed. We get pizza at the airport. I was aggravated. This was the longest day ever!
After a few hours, we finally board the plane. It is delayed again. We are out on the runway and it starts raining. Apparently they can't fly if there is lightening in the area and guess what? There is. We are on the plane its like late, we have been traveling all day. We finally take off. While flying, we both fell asleep. The lady in front of us wakes me up to tell me to wake my husband up because he is snoring, loudly. Well he was, but what can you do? Make him not sleep, I could barely keep my eyes open. And don't wake ME up for me to wake someone else up - b!tch!! People snore, they can't help it.
We finally get back to New Orleans. The airport seems deserted, it was a little creepy. We go to the baggage claim. We are like the only flight. It takes forever for our bags to get there - welcome back to New Orleans. We finally get our bags and DH's sister picks us up. We drive back to our place. We go to bed and dream about our amazing trip!
I think our honeymoon was the perfect start to our marriage! I also think St. Kitts was an ideal honeymoon or any kind of relaxing vacation spot.
The end.

One Year Ago Yesterday - Honeymoon Day 7
Our Honeymoon in St. Kitts & Nevis
Day 7: Our day in Nevis
We obviously didn't plan very much of what we were going to do. The one thing I wish we would have planned for is going to Nevis more than just one day. We went to Nevis on a Sunday, which was apparently a bad idea because it seemed like most everything was closed. It was also a rainy day so we really didn't get to do much. If we go again, I'd like to spend more time in Nevis.
After leaving Nisbet, we were trying to decide if we should go back to St. Kitts and I personally didn't want to yet. So we found Sunshine Bar, home of the Killer Bees. We had a drink there. We met a couple that were staying at a place on Nevis that didn't have air conditioning and had mosquito nets. They looked so sunburned and worn out. I'm glad we didn't stay a place like that. We also saw the Vet and her family again. We bought some souvenirs from the random guy selling stuff. We also walked out onto the beach there.

One Year Ago Yesterday - Honeymoon Day 6
Continuing the day late trend...here is what we did on July 18, 2009.
Day 6: Catamaran Sail & Snorkel, Dinner at the slowest place in St. Kitts
I believe it was the day before that we booked this trip. We went to the concierge desk and I wanted a snorkeling trip. Well summer is St. Kitts' off season, so there weren't a lot of options. Also, most of the water things were only on the day the cruise ship was there. We were in the middle of booking a random power snorkeling trip when this lady comes up to the table. She is apparently a visiting Professor at the Vet school - yes St. Kitts has a vet school. She said her kids and husband were only going to be there for a few days and she knew some people and were trying to get people to go on a catamaran sail and snorkel. She said if she could get so many people they would sail. Immediately we jumped at the chance to go with the Vet and her group, especially since it seemed like a much nicer trip than the one we were booking and also a little less money.
I know I was worried when we woke up that day because it was all very tentative the day before. But, we got ready and went downstairs at the appointed time. There was a van taking us to the port. This time it was a nice air conditioned cab. Well, at least I think it had a/c.

We had to wait a little while for the cruise ship passengers and I guess for the boat to get all ready. Then we walked over and boarded the catamaran. It was big and beautiful. There was a covered seating area and a bar with a bartender. There was a nice net thing to lay on and enjoy the water. It was great. Again the rum punch was not weak.

So we stopped. I had snorkeled before, but Jonathan had not. They gave us gear, but there were no life jackets for adults. I've always snorkeled with a life jacket on. They had noodles and we both took noodles. We jumped in the water and started snorkeling. There was a decent amount of fish and it was a very pleasant snorkeling experience especially because we were close to a high elevation. I took a lot of pictures on our very expensive water camera (we had to buy it at the hotel because we forgot to purchase one back home), but they didn't come out so well. DH was very upset by that. About an hour later, we got out of the water.
After we got back on board, they had lunch for us. This wasn't a simple lunch, this was a delicious meal. I was very impressed at the food for a little trip like this. This made me even more thankful for our chance meeting with the Vet.

Once we got off the boat and back on the bus, it was apparent that we were sunburned. We got back to the hotel and took showers. We got out of our showers and yes, we were burnt to a crisp. Particularly our backs and legs. There was no more newlywed fun time for the rest of the trip.
We fell asleep I believe or at least DH did and much later headed out for dinner. We went to a pizza place not far away from the hotel. It was the slowest service ever. The food wasn't that great either. I think it was our worst meal there, but it wasn't terrible. I of course made sure we would take a picture and go out to eat because it was our 1 week anniversary! Even though we were burned and worn out, we were still happy honeymooners!

The wonderful sail and net thing
We also wound up meeting yet another couple who got married the same weekend we did. They too were staying at the Marriott.
We discovered that we would be snorkeling at Shittin Bay. Named because there are big rocks that are in the bay. It is an area that I believe is only accessible by boat, so I'm glad we got to go there. It wound up being sunny by the time we got there.

One Year Ago Yesterday - Honeymoon Day 5 Part 2
The Beach House & Side of the Road Picture Taking
After walking across Reggae Beach, we decided to leave and find somewhere to eat. We stumbled upon a resort called the Beach House. When we got there, we were starving and it was like 3:00 pm. We found this beautiful restaurant and sat down at the bar. We ordered drinks and found out that their kitchen was closed for lunch. We were sad and the only ones there. The bartender (he wasn't just the bartender, but I don't know what his position was) told us that they would see if they could scrounge up a snack for us. It was like the most delicious thing we ever tasted and they gave it to us for free. We think it was ground tomato paste with plantain chips, which sounds like nothing, but it wasn't as simple as that and was amazingly delicious. We decided to make dinner reservations there. Later we found out that it is the nicest restaurant on St. Kitts.

After having our amazing snack at the Beach House, we drove off to the hotel. On the way, we stopped off on the side of the road to take pictures. This is the mostly undeveloped side of the island.

After our picture stop, we went back to the hotel. I'm sure we took naps and such. I'm not sure if we did anything else. Much later on, we got ready for dinner and set out back to the Beach House. We arrived and were early I believe. I think we had to wait a few minutes, but not very long. We were shocked at how delicious the food was. It was the nicest dinner we had on the island. I absolutely loved the Beach House, I'd want to stay there if we ever get to go back. It was a wonderful atmosphere with a great breeze. The food was amazing, here are pictures of our food.

Our Delicious Appetizer
One Year Ago Yesterday - Honeymoon Day 5
Since I forgot to blog Friday's until yesterday, I thought I'd continue the trend lol.
So today, July 17, 2009, Honeymoon Day 5: Our beach day!
St. Kitts has plenty beaches and we decided we should go to Reggae beach this day. We drove around and saw the remnants of an old sugar thing. I must say I loved driving around St. Kitts. Everything was so pretty and untouched. It will be sad when Christophe Harbor is built - even though it will be an awesome place and we'd buy a condo if we could afford it. Its still sad, I'm glad we went before it was a popular tourist destination. So if you want to go, I'd say go soon.

The broken down sugar thing, DH said sugar mill?
We finally found it and checked out the place a little before going to the Bar. The bar owner's have a gigantic pig that lives on the beach. We took pictures by it. I put the picture of my husband by it so you can get a better idea of the size. Jonathan is 6'2" at least 250 pds.

We then had drinks at Reggae Beach Bar & Grill. I got a rum punch and let me tell you this isn't your typical rum punch. It is delicious, but it was strong. I was surprised. But to tell you the truth, none of the drinks on St. Kitts really lacked alcohol, which was nice.
So I was a little tipsy and still not finished my drink. We put it in a plastic cup and walked out to the beach.
