Having our families live relatively close together is a blessing. During the holidays, however, it is not!
Both of our families tend to celebrate at the same time, so we are forced to split ourselves in two.
Yesterday was the first Thanksgiving we actually spent together. During the years we were together before we got married, we each spent Thanksgiving with our own families. I was convinced we would again spend Thanksgiving apart this year. I told DH that as long as my Gamma was alive I would have to go to her Thanksgiving. This year for the first time in my life my grandparents spent Thanksgiving together. It was a great thing that I would not miss. Since my family is small and only has a get together at the eating time, there really is no other option to see them at a different time. For some reason, DH decided to spend Thanksgiving with my family. His younger sister was also spending Thanksgiving at her boyfriend's family so I guess he thought it would be ok.
I am hoping to be able to have Thanksgiving at my house in the future. This way my family can combine with Jonathan's family to celebrate this holiday. It wouldn't be too many extra people, so I would think it would be fine.
If we can't do that, then we will have to alternate Thanksgivings if we want to be together.
I hate having to split the holidays and almost wish our parents lived across the country from each other so there would be more of a reason that we had to alternate.
I also have not liked Thanksgiving since I started Law School. It is at a terrible time during the semester. I have a paper due Monday, then the next week finals start. It has been so hard to actually work on my paper during the holidays and I have gotten little done and I have to have it finished for Monday! I have no motivation and the laziness of the holidays aren't helping!
I can't wait until this semester is over so I can relax, unwind and hopefully gain back some motivation I haven't had since my first semester.
