Slow Cooker Ribs

On New Years Day, Jonathan invited some of his friends over for the LSU bowl game. So, we decided to slow cook ribs and cook some on the big green egg.

I used the recipe from the Year of Slow Cooking Blog for Crock Pot Barbecue Beef Ribs. I used Pork Ribs instead. So the last few moments of 2009 I was cutting up vegetables to prepare for this recipe.

So Recipe

Ingredients
--5lbs of ribs (ribs apparently don't come in 5 lbs, so we guesstimated)
--bottle of barbecue sauce (pick a good one)
--one diced yellow onion

--8 cloves of garlic, smashed and chopped
--2 chopped green onions (I didn't have two full ones so I used multiple shorter ones)
--pinch of black pepper

Directions
--while chopping vegetables, brown ribs on a broiler sheet (I used a normal baking pan) for 15 minutes at 400 degrees.
--put ribs in the bottom of your stoneware
--put chopped veggies on top
--cover with entire bottle of barbecue sauce
--add pinch of pepper
--cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, high for 4-6 (we did low not sure how long)

Verdict
I was able to use a fork to eat these ribs. They were cooked very well. The flavor I wasn't a big fan of though. We used a bottle of BBQ sauce that one of Jonathan's friends bought previously and he just bought the cheapest bottle he could find. The BBQ sauce is what really does the flavoring for this recipe so make sure you use a good one. A mesquite one would be perfect with this recipe. I'd love to try this recipe out again with a better bottle of BBQ sauce.
