BOTB

So the other day I was on the July 09 Nest Board and someone posted asking about proposal stories. DH proposed at the church my maternal grandparents, my parents and my sister got married at but that we had previously decided not to get married at. I remembered telling our photographer about this. He told us there were lots of ways to use a church in other ways like for our children's baptism. I remembered at the time thinking that was a great idea. So then I thought about baby furniture. The cribs I've looked at online are anywhere from $800 to over $1500. Then you have to buy a changing table and perhaps a dresser or armoire and the bedding etc.

So all these thoughts lead me to think of the dresser I had in my room at my parents' house. Ever since I can remember, I have had this dresser in my room. Until of course I moved out for college and then with my husband. The dresser, however, is still in its same spot in what was my room in my parents' house. This dresser was actually the changing table when my sister and I were babies. I guess since I was the last child, the dresser went to me. Well the top of the dresser just doesn't have the pad on it like it would if it was set up as a changing table. Also, the top can technically come off and there is a tub under it. Of course we would need to get a new pad and a new tub, but technically, this could be the perfect dresser! It would also save DH and I like $1000.

So I send my Mom a text message that says "Can I have my dresser in my room at the house for my kids as a changing table?"

My Mom then asks if there is something she should know.

OMG Mom, no!!

Can't I think ahead about things? After 25 years, don't you know I think way in advance about things I shouldn't be thinking about. Wasn't I planning my wedding before I ever even had a boyfriend?

Well to the conclusion, my Mom thinks that I will definitely want my own changing table "when my time comes".

I just have been very disappointed at the baby furniture I've seen online, but then again I haven't gone furniture shopping for baby stuff so how do I really know. I just know that the construction of the furniture isn't the same as it used to be. This dresser is all wood. Each drawer is carved. The inside of the drawers are wood. The handles are beautiful.

I'm just worried that the practical side of me will not want to spend the money for another good quality piece of furniture.
