It was also the first time I used our Kitchen Aid mixer that we got for the wedding. It was a gift from the ladies I used to work with.
I used the recipe from the instruction manual for the Kitchen Aid mixer. It told you what speed to put it on and everything, so that was good.
So here are my pictures from my first experience baking a cake from scratch:
Here are some of my supplies including flour (not including the cleaning supplies lol - I was also cleaning my house for the party)
Here is my Kitchen Aid mixer being used for the first time.
And my phone was being used as a timer
Adding the eggs
I think it was about done at this point
One of the pans all greased, ready to be floured
The cakes baked and came out pretty well, ready to be iced
See they came out pretty clean
Sadly, I don't have any pictures of me making the icing - it was pretty much a lot of powdered sugar and some crisco.
Here is the finished product.
I iced the cake, but DH did the writing. I made the icing from scratch, but not the icing DH used for the writing. I also got to used our crystal cake plate for the first time!

Yay! It's hard to make a homemade cake but so worth it. And here is a tip, line your cake pans with wax paper and it will keep the cake moist and it will come out clean. Also, so jealous of your mixer.
